Description
Detlaf Neuman had a dream -- he longed to open a restaurant where others could share his mother's classic German recipes in a family style setting. In 1982, his dream came true when he opened Checkers Old Munchen German American Restaurant. Business thrived until he passed away in 1999 but new owner Mathew Moore has kept Detlaf's spirit alive and well!
This small, quaint dining spot is still beloved for its authentic, delicious Bavarian fare, impressive selection of imported German beers served in tall, frosty glasses, and the friendly, attentive service. Checkers Old Munchen has attracted a loyal following who can't get enough of the golden brown potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream, and the famous, huge veal schnitzel served alongside the best red cabbage ever. Everything on the menu is homemade, including the veal or pork Weinerschnitzel blanketed in rich brown gravy, the Bavarian Platter, and the very BEST Wurst!
The signature dish here is the two-pound Pork Shank with Spaetzel (home-style German noodles). And you will not believe the reasonable prices for this rich food! The only way to cap such a delicious meal is with the flaky, cinnamon scented Apple Strudel and a cup of their delicious coffee. Unless, of course, you'd prefer the sinful Black Forest Cake. Once you're comfortably seated in this inviting restaurant, you'll feel like you're sharing a hearty, homemade meal with your own family.
