LocalDines.com Expands into Maine

LocalDines.com to offer amazing deals for greater Portland, Maine area restaurants.

Portland, Maine (November 2014)LocalDines.com, a popular free-to-join Web site dedicated to promoting locally-owned and operated restaurants in both Florida and Arizona, has announced a new market in Maine. Started in 2001, Localdines.com has established itself as a comprehensive online dining guide offering custom profile pages and video tours of restaurants. The site also allows users to purchase half price gift certificates for restaurants, as an incentive to dine locally and dine differently.

“This is an incredible opportunity for both restaurants and diners in greater Portland,” said James Kracht, technical director for LocalDines.com in Phoenix. “Our company is fiercely loyal to the 'local first' movement, and our platform offers a tremendous set of tools for local restaurateurs.”

The new Maine market is helmed by Richard and Michelle McDermott. Richard was originally from Barrington, RI, and Michelle was born and raised in South Portland. The two bring over 20 years of marketing industry experience to Local Dines Maine.

“This is a cost-free digital marketing and advertising program for restaurants,” said Richard McDermott. “We create top of mind awareness in the local market for restaurants through true grass-roots digital marketing. We also offer cross marketing with the blog site Eater Maine, and with local cable advertising.”

The initial Maine participants are The Thirsty Pig, Portland Beer Week, Chaba Thai & Sushi, Little Tap House, and Bueno Loco Restaurante, with more local restaurants coming online throughout the year.

About LocalDines.com Established in 2001 by radio talk show host and foodie Taylor Morgan (daughter of Boston talk radio giant Jerry Williams, WRKO/WBZ), as a way for restaurants to advertise on her show without cost. Taylor decided to accept restaurant gift certificates as payment for radio advertising and, in turn, she sold these gift certificates online, at a discount, to her listeners. This gave listeners a nice incentive to dine out, and helped restaurants keep their advertising costs low. In 2003, Taylor met with Todd Korker of Discover Dining, a cable TV show that was utilizing the same concept. They quickly joined forces and brought in Steven Penniman to run day to day operations and LocalDines.com exploded. In 2011 they decided to concentrate their efforts more on online and social media presence, and changed the business model to ensure that 50% of the restaurant's monthly gift certificate sales flowed back to the restaurateur. In 2012, they partnered with James and Michael Kracht in Phoenix, Arizona, to open LocalDines.com Phoenix.

Brothers Encourage Locals To Dine Differently, Assume Ownership of Localdines.com

Fresh and Interactive Local Dining Website Changes Face of Deal Sites

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona (February 2012) – Michael and Jim Kracht share a love of food, technology, Phoenix, and now, business partnership. The two have pooled their mutual passions and are the new owners of the Valley’s hottest dining website, Localdines.com.

Localdines.com started in 2009 with Michael Kracht as the lead sales person and director of business development. He steadily built the portfolio to 75 of the best restaurants in town by 2011. In early 2012 he took over ownership of the website with his brother Jim, who brings over 15 years of experience in Web development and graphic design, and their father Jeffrey Kracht, who brings marketing and business development experience from his time as a professional engineer.

“It’s a family affair,” said Michael Kracht. “We each bring different skills to the company that complement each other,” he continued.

Localdines.com is the most comprehensive online dining guide in the Phoenix metropolitan area offering a custom page and video tour of each restaurant on the website. It also includes menus, events and user reviews. A limited number of monthly half price incentives are offered to users to encourage them to dine locally and dine differently.

Localdines.com is changing the face and the rules of a typical daily deal website.

“We’re not Groupon, we’re not Living Social. We are a resource of the 70 best restaurants in town and we provide our users free access to places they want to eat. We only sell 50 certificates each month to each restaurant — we have a supply and demand model that is worlds apart from true ‘deal’ sites,” said Michael Kracht.

The Kracht family will add additional member features and benefits for its 30,000 plus users and growing in 2012. A sample of their new offerings includes:

  • Sponsoring, hosting and promoting unique local foodie events.
  • New, high quality, high-end restaurant partners each month.
  • Attractive social media promotions and giveaways via Facebook and Twitter.
  • Steaknifetheblog.com—adventures of a secret valley Foodie hungry for the gossip on the local food scene.

"Localdines.com is about bringing people together. Food and dining is the centerpiece of all great cities – it’s such an important factor for family and friends. Restaurants are one of the last remaining meeting places in our society, so to be a part of something like localdines.com is thrilling,” said Jim Kracht, Technical Director and co-owner.

Largely, Localdines.com has used a grassroots, word of mouth growth strategy to attract the hungry foodies to the site and has made fine dining accessible to anyone in the Valley of the Sun.

"We want to urge our customers to always dine local and dine differently. Our site does this. It's current with the hot spots - it's interactive with video content, and most importantly, helps a consumer make an informed dining decision,” said Michael Kracht.
